Day1

Welcome to Otranto

Your Charming Puglia Walking tour starts from the history of these places, and Otranto is the village that preserves its roots.
Take a first cognitive walk inside the ancient village awaits you: crossing Porta Alfonsina, the gate of the old town, will be like immersing yourself in a timeless place. The historic center is protected by walls and ramparts overlooking a splendid crystalline sea, it hides alleys of rare beauty, and to celebrate your experience in Puglia a visit to the Cathedral of Otranto will be a must. Here you will find the Tree of Life, one of the largest floor mosaics in Europe. The charm of history, religion, myths and legends will accompany you for the rest of the journey.
First dinner included and overnight in Otranto.

Day2

Walk the coast south of Otranto - Dairy Experience

11km, +90m -140m

A little curiosity: did you know that Otranto is the easternmost point of Italy? If you are an early riser you can admire the sunrise before any other part of the Bel Paese :)
After breakfast, meeting with your guide. You will visit a dairy and walk with the master cheese maker to discover every stage of cheese production. The Gourmet Walking Experience in Puglia is not just for the mind and we will return to the trails only after a rich tasting of local products.
After having satisfied your palate, accompanied by your guide, continue on foot in the spectacular surroundings of Otranto, crossing scenarios frozen in time, pristine marine views, rocky bays. The itinerary will pass by Masseria Cippano, on a stretch of the Via Francigena, by Lago di Bauxite and by Baia delle Orte, before returning to Otranto. We will not say more about these places, amazement is an essential part of this Walking tour in the Charming Puglia.
Overnight in Otranto.

Day3

Baroque Lecce - Papier-mâché Workshop

13km, +130m - 60m

This morning you will walk alone along the green Idro valley. You will pass by Le Costantine Foundation: "a place where everyone can feel at home as a big family... where you can live close to nature, away from the city, from the progress and robotization of minds”.
Your Charming Puglia & Matera Walking Experience will continue with a visit to La Cutura Botanical Garden, where you can admire several wonderful gardens, over three thousand succulents and tropical plants, and even wild animals.
From here you will reach Lecce with a private transfer. Free lunch and then a guided tour of the historic center of Lecce to learn about Baroque art and the evocative alleys. Churches and historic buildings seem embroidered in stone and, with your eyes to the sky, you will try to notice every detail.
To satisfy all five senses, in the afternoon it will be the turn of touch: a papier-mâché workshop will give you the chance to shape paper like the historic craftsmen of Lecce.
Overnight in Lecce.

Day4

Ostuni and millenary olive trees - Olive Oil tasting + Cooking Class

You will visit the Masseria, the underground olive mill and the millenary olive grove, and then taste organic extra virgin olive oils with an olive oil sommelière, for a fantastic Gourmet Walking Experience in Puglia.
You will then walk along the paths that climb up to Ostuni, the White City par excellence. After the countryside and its relaxing views, you can spend the afternoon visiting this splendid city, its alleys, in search of unforgettable views. You will look for the typical restaurant in the beautiful historic center, where you will have a cooking lesson before dinner.

Day5

In the park of the coastal dunes - Wine Therapy relaxation

12km, +100m /- 250m

After breakfast, transfer from Ostuni to the Sanctuary of Sant’Oronzo, immersed in nature and built in the second half of the 17th century by the inhabitants of Ostuni as a sign of thanks to the saint for saving the city from the plague. Along the way you can visit the rock sanctuary of San Biagio, patron saint of Ostuni. From the sanctuary you can enjoy a wonderful view of the olive grove plain that extends to the sea.
For a Gourmet Walking Experience in Puglia, along the way you will stop at a family-run farm for a coffee break and a small tasting of typical products to recharge your batteries and walk to your masseria. In the afternoon, Wine Therapy awaits you, an incredible experience that includes beauty and wellness treatments based on wine and must, rich in properties to combat skin aging and detoxify the body.
Overnight in Montalbano.

Day6

Walking to Locorotondo - Wine Tasting

15km, +/- 200m

Today's tour is dedicated to the Itria Valley, the green heart of Puglia. You will have a transfer to Cisternino, an ancient all-white village, whose oriental charm is reflected in the low houses, hidden courtyards, stairways, tangle of alleys and arches.
From here you continue on foot to Locorotondo, following for a stretch the cycle/pedestrian path built along the walkways of the Main Canal of the Apulian Acqueduct, which since 1906 has transported water from the Sele River from Campania to Puglia, solving the traditional drought problems of the region.
The water route will take you to Locorotondo, and in this charming village with pointed roofs, you will taste the excellent local wines among the narrow streets of the center in a small but well-stocked wine shop.
Overnight in Locorotondo.

Day7

Walking between Martina Franca and Alberobello - Trullo Experience

19km, +/- 200m

A week has already passed since your arrival, but your walking holiday in the suggestive Puglia will not cease to amaze you.
Today you will walk from the beautiful Martina Franca along the path that leads to the land of the trulli. To many of you, Alberobello will seem an enchanted place, for its typical conical dry stone constructions: the traditional trulli of Puglia.
The oldest trulli in Alberobello date back to the 14th century, and the architectural uniqueness and historical importance of this small town have been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1996.
To best enjoy this original Apulian experience, we thought of offering you a typical aperitif inside a trullo. After that, you will return to Locorotondo with a private transfer.
Overnight in Locorotondo.

Day8

Walking in the Park of Rock Churches of Matera

9km, +320m - 260m

The Puglia & Matera Gourmet Walking Experience is also adrenaline and today you will find out why.
The path of this day takes you along the Natural Park Chiese Rupestri (Rock Churches) of Matera. You begin to walk near the valley of the Gravina stream, arriving at the confluence with the Jesce River, which separates the Murgia Timone from the Murgecchia. The landscape of the Murgecchia includes churches and caves carved into the rock and offers the first beautiful views of the Sassi di Matera.
To reach the ancient village of Sassi, just cross the suspension bridge that connects the Murgia to the city. The bridge is suspended over the Gravina stream and in addition to giving you a thrill of adventure, it will offer you a beautiful view of Matera from the bottom up.
Overnight in Matera.

Day9

Matera

Your Gourmet Walking Experience ends in Matera, before heading to the airport.
It is one of the oldest cities in the world, custodian of the first human settlements in Italy, and after having been the Shame of Italy, in 1993 UNESCO declared the Sassi of Matera a World Heritage Site.
